Statement of the Office of Attorney General Regarding the Personhood Initiative
Feb. 4 - The Office of the Attorney General, State of Mississippi, would like to take this opportunity to correct some misunderstandings about this Office’s involvement and role in this matter. The proponents of the initiative have sued the Secretary of State, and our Office has a legal duty to defend the state. We take no position of the propriety of the initiative, but we are required by law to defend the statutes passed by the Legislature.
Tupelo Father Going to Jail For Failure to Support His Child
Feb. 4 - Roosevelt D. Linston, (age 40), of 1823 Holmes Street, Tupelo, had his probation revoked today for leaving the state of Mississippi and not paying his Court ordered child support. Oktibbeha County Circuit Court Judge James T. Kitchens, Jr. ordered Linston to pay $600 today and placed him into the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections until the arrearage amount of $16,500.00 is paid in full. Linston will spend six months in prison and then be moved to the Greenwood Restitution Center.
